L-Horns’ Arms and Bats Tame Cats

RE-CAP  The Louisville Longhorns played another abbreviated game Thursday night, and although the first inning was played in a steady rain, the weather could not be blamed this time. Instead, it was the Longhorns’ shut-down pitching, knock-down hitting and lock-down fielding that was responsible for the abridged proceedings, a 12-0, 3-inning, run-rule victory over the 12U DC Jaguars. The ’Horn slabsters allowed no hits for the third time in the last six games, the sticksmiths banged out double-digit hits for the fifth straight contest and the mittmen played error-free D.

Lead-off hitter Andrew Littlefield leads off.

’HORN TOOTING  High-Efficiency: Starting slinger Nicholas Parrish flung two innings of perfect ball, needing only 22 pitches (15 strikes) to neutralize the Jag bat-wielders... Ry-2K: Two of the three outs that Ryan Hamilton recorded in his one-inning stint atop the bump came via strikeout... 3-for-3 Amigos: Lead-off batter Andrew Littlefield and No. 3 hitter Casey Simon both had three hits in three trips to the plate... Relatively Speaking: With Trey Sweeney on the DL and Matthew Higgins restricted to batting only, Baugher kin Nick Marchigeon was called on to make his Longhorn debut, and made the most of it, going 1-for-2 with an RBI... Start Me Up: Brendan Koester’s RBI base knock plated the first run in the L-Horns’ big, 8-run second inning... Have Glove, Will Travel: Koester came in from left field for the third inning and made two of that frame’s three outs from his keystone sack station... He’s the One: Bryce Elmore’s batting line read 1-for-1, 1 run scored, 1 run batted in, 1 base on balls.

Starter Nicholas Parrish spun two innings of perfect ball.

Brendan Koester waits for his pitch before his
run-scoring base hit in the 2nd inning.
